Irska, za Irce Éire, Zeleni otok, Smaragdni otok, zemlja svetaca i heroja, mitova, legendi i duhovnosti, zemlja spektakularne ljepote, burne povijesti i brižno čuvane baštine jedno je od najatraktivnijih turističkih odredišta Europe.

Uz zelene pašnjake i keltske građevine Irsku čine posebnim otokom i mnoge druge zanimljivosti poput osebujnih jahaćih konja, piva Guinness, irskog vilenjaka, broda Titanic koji je sagrađen upravo u ovoj zemlji, čak 7 pobjeda na Euroviziji, 3 nobelovca za književnost itd. Zaštitnik Irske je sv. Parick čiji dan se slavi 17. ožujka kao St. Patricks Day, a ova država ima i pet znakovitih simbola: djetelinu, harfu, keltsko drvo života, Trikater – keltski čvor i Leprikona – irskog vilenjaka. Najstarije irsko sveučilište Trinity College u Dublinu osnovala je kraljica Elizabeta I. davne 1592. godine. Prema ustavnom uređenju Irska je parlamentarna demokracija podijeljena u 26 grofovija, a glavni grad je Dublin. Članica je Europske unije od 1973. godine, a službena valuta je euro.

U Knjižnično-dokumentacijskom centru od 1. rujna do 10. listopada 2023. godine može se posjetiti bogato ilustrirana izložba „Irska i rođenje Europe“ koja govori o važnoj ulozi irskih znanstvenika i misionara u ranoj povijesti europske ideje.

Irska se 1973. pridružila Europskoj ekonomskoj zajednici , preteči Europske unije, ali irsko sudjelovanje u razvoju europskih identiteta datira više od tisuću godina unatrag. Nakon raspada Rimskog Carstva na Zapadu, Europljani su na tim temeljima počeli graditi europsku kulturu i identitet, a zahvaljujući irskom misionaru sv. Kolumbanusu koji je napisao totius Europea Irska je odigrala važnu ulogu u oblikovanju europske baštine praktički od samih početaka (D. Bracken i A. Byrne).

Grafički dizajn izložbe pripada Studiu Suss. Izložba ima karakter putujuće izložbe širom svijeta (Irska, Mađarska, Njemačka, Hrvatska, Bugarska, Japan, SAD…).

Ireland, for the Irish, Éire, the Green Island, the Emerald Island, the land of saints and heroes, myths, legends and spirituality, a land of spectacular beauty, turbulent history and carefully preserved heritage is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Europe.

In addition to green pastures and Celtic buildings, Ireland is special for many other interesting things, such as distinctive riding horses, Guinness beer, the Irish elf, the Titanic, which was built in this country, as many as 7 Eurovision victories, 3 Nobel Prize winners in literature, etc. The patron saint of Ireland is St. Parick whose day is celebrated on March 17th as St. Patrick's Day. The five significant symbols of Ireland are: the shamrock, the harp, the Celtic tree of life, the Trinity knot, and the Leprechaun - the Irish elf. The oldest Irish university, Trinity College in Dublin, was founded by Queen Elizabeth I way back in 1592. According to the constitutional arrangement, Ireland's parliamentary democracy is divided into 26 counties, and the capital is Dublin. It has been a member of the European Union since 1973, and the official currency is the euro.

The richly illustrated exhibition "Ireland and the Birth of Europe", which describes the important role of Irish scientists and missionaries in the early history of the European idea, can be visited in the Library and Documentation Centre from September 1st  to October 10th, 2023.

In 1973, Ireland joined the European Economic Community, the forerunner of the European Union, but Irish participation in the development of European identities dates back more than a thousand years. After the collapse of the Roman Empire in the West, Europeans began to build the European culture and identity on these foundations, and thanks to the Irish missionary St. Columbanus, who wrote the totius Europae, Ireland has played an important role in shaping European heritage from the very beginning (D. Bracken i A. Byrne).

The graphic design of the exhibition was done by Studio Suss. The exhibition has the character of a traveling exhibition presented around the world (Ireland, Hungary, Germany, Croatia, Bulgaria, Japan, USA...).
